Fashion Friday: Top Gown Picks from 56th Grammy Awards

0
Here are my top picks from the 56th Grammys Red Carpet. I just love these gowns.

La Traviata in Valentino

I instantly fell in love with this gown upon seeing it as it opened the Valentino Spring 2014 Couture fashion show during last week’s Paris Haute Couture fashion week. “Aaah ang gandaaaaaa!!” was my initial reaction. I don’t know it’s just like love at first sight! So I was already biased when I saw Katy Perry flaunt it. Pero naisip ko tuloy, “Really Katy Perry? Wore that too soon I guess”. It’s a gown that leaves a lasting impression so regardless of the awards night and who wore it, I’d still pick it hahaha!

Coffees and Lunches: ArSy Spontaneity

0

It’s another one of those spontaneous lunch dates with ArSy (Arianne and Sy tandem hahaha) at nowhere else but where I and Sy work, BGC. Arianne has Kitchen’s Best as one of her must-try restaurants in her list so it’s where we lunched.

Thankful Thursday: 012314 - 012914

0
I’m already feeling like smashing my body on my bed and just sleep the rest of day of. I feel tired at 11:12AM writing this part of the blog post. Thank God it’s already Thursday! I survived hump day!! I was on the verge of calling in sick early this morning but the thought that it’s Friday (and a holiday) tomorrow dragged me out of bed.
  • I feel thankful that this week I was able to catch up on my piling to-do lists! It’s just January but there’s already a backlog of things that need to be done.
  • I guess my tasks at work have also been interesting and have been challenging me that despite having merely four hours of sleep the past nights, I don’t (or more of “I can’t”) feel sleepy in front of my two monitors. This week, I’ve been enjoying my work.
  • I was also enjoying my “me-time’s” the past days inside coffee shops – reading, doodling, surfing my iPad Tinsy etc etc. It’s developing into a habit again.
  • This may be trivial but thankful for the cool weather. I easily get cold but I like walking early morning with the cool breeze brushing through my face. And I get to wear warm clothes too!
  • The past week made me feel blessed yet again for having true friends! I love my high school barkada! I feel so thankful that in more than a decade we still have kept our friendship bond.

And here is the weekly compilation of my Grateful Journal posts at http://gratefulmerie.tumblr.com...

Video: Happy Three Lurie Staycation

0

Here's a short and very random video of our third anniversary staycation at The Bellevue Hotel Manila. Actually it's mostly when I was already enjoying my new pair of Sperry and refreshing moment by the pool. I was enjoying and relaxing too much that it was rather late when I realized about video capturing our celebration haha!

WIW: Yellow for a Retro-themed Company Christmas Party

0

This is one of those late outfit posts dating Dec 7 of last year during our company’s Retro-themed Christmas party. I didn’t want to join the bandwagon of jeans or skater skirts paired with neon-colored tops and flashy sneaks. I opted for being classy retro! In other words, pa-espesyal ako hahaha! I scored this dress at SM Department Store ‘cos they’ve got it all for us. Haha labo. I bought it on sale and so I decided to just wear this for the party. Platform sandals are sort of 60s but I still wore it. It’s not obvious in this kind of unclear photo but I super like my makeup and hair-do that day. I was also feeling “charming” with my ribbon. I’m thinking of songs such as Yellow Submarine and Tie a Yellow Ribbon as I end this post. So yellow!

Travel Tuesday: The Longest Zipline Ride Then

0
Danao Bohol
June 2009

Forgive my awkward screaming. Hahaha!

Let’s go back to some half a decade ago. This was the first time when the five of us flew together, as one family, to Bohol. Usually, we are not complete, or if complete, we ride a ship. Those were the days when flying was sooooo expensive! It’s the time of the year to visit our relatives in Bohol. I guess this was so enjoyable given that I and my siblings are already old enough to appreciate and take pleasure in the beauty that Bohol is. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the Bohol beaches as a kid most especially that we are just a walk away or a short motorcycle ride away from them. I recall the beaches so clean and white and not much beach houses and resorts were all over – just plain beaches and the sea, and a few cottages. I must say that over the years, Bohol has developed into a tourist spot and got commercialized.

Anyway, here’s a short photo diary of the first part of our visiting Bohol trip last 2009.

Merie Eats: Figaro's Chicken ala Kiev and Al Tonno Pasta

0
I just thought of posting this Figaro meal in here because I find it worth the price. I and my officemates usually have a lunch out at least once a week and this is one of those we have tried one lazy Friday. I must say it’s something I would order again. For only Php229, I already had chicken, pasta and the meal also comes with an iced tea drink. Both the chicken ala kiev and the Al Tonno pasta suited my taste buds, not bad at all. So that’s just about it. Haha! What an online dump contributor this post is.

Thankful Thursday: 011714-012214

0
The past days have been tiring -- almost exhausting, but still I thank the Lord for strengthening me. I feel so blessed that in a few days time I was able to do quite a lot of things. I pray that this will go on throughout the year. I've already had enough procrastination and slacking off the past year and even the years before. I’m super thankful that I am finally moving forward.

Travel Tuesday: Hidden Cold Spring

0
Hidden Cold Spring in Balete, Batangas
April 2010

I really can’t recall the exact name of this peaceful place. Philippines has so many hidden gems and yet again these photos do not justify them. Still near the Metro, our youth ministry went for a refreshing at this place since it was only an overnight affair.

The place is good as a background for eating, laidback chatting, refreshing as the water is really, clean, clear and cold; and for nature tripping.
This photo basically shows what you will see around the place. It was a steep way down as we walk through nature. We stayed in a small kubo and the rest is green in color. We hear the creatures making their sound. We hear the swaying of the trees. We hear the moving of the leaves and branches touching each other. We hear the spring flowing. It was a relaxing vibe.

But the thing I’m talking about is … finally I and my co-book-lovers finally started forming our book club!! We’re all glad to be part of it! Merie Eats: Yin and Yang Champorado and Adobo Sunrise

2
One of the things I love about Early Bird Breakfast Club is their very-well presented food
It’s not my first time at Early Bird Breakfast Club. I love the quaint ambiance it gives. But there is still a lot of food in their menu for me to try out. Today, as I need to report to work on a Saturday, me and my partner decided to have a lunch-out at this place.

Travel Tuesday: Inside Taal

0
I realized that there are no posts solely dedicated to the travels I had for the past years. As a young professional who is forced to allocate 40% of her 24 hours to her day job five times a week, I try to use my vacation leaves and holidays wisely and make it sure to travel to places whether it is near or a plane ride is needed. I decided to dedicate some Tuesday posts for the places I’ve been to, mostly local destinations, and post of sort like a photo diary. And as 2014 unfolds, I hope to travel more and share more travel experiences through this blog.

Tagaytay and Taal Volcano, Batangas
April 2010

Let me begin with something that I can recall of easily and somewhere near. Two of the places accessible to people who are in the Metro are Tagaytay and Batangas. We had a visitor at work who's from India and for someone who wants to see the beauty of the Philippines without spending much and without going too far, I and my former teammates decided to bring the Indian colleague to the said places.

That was the Merie they came to know "with the full bangs" haha! Why do we all look so weird in here??

Merie Eats: Slice's Belgian Chocolate Champorado

0
Slice's healthy version of champorado in Belgian chocolate
From being in a one-meal-a-day fasting for five days, as much as I wanted to stuff myself with steak and lots of meat as I break the fast, it wouldn't be right to do so. Instead, I and Jezrah dined in Slice High Street, and ordered for myself their Belgian chocolate champorado and their yummy yema cupcake.

Thankful Thursday: Photo-a-day Grateful Journal

0

http://gratefulmerie.tumblr.com

On this Thankful Thursday post, I am introducing my grateful journal for this year. Though I haven’t been consistent enough in here with my weekly thankful post, since 2011 I have consistently kept a handwritten grateful journal. It was therapeutic for me and I actually love doing it. At the end of the day I think through the moments that happened the entire day, and never was a day that I had nothing to be thankful about. Being alive is given, but there are moments we are too occupied with the busyness of this world that we do not cherish – those are the kind of moments we should feel thankful about. This 2014, I am putting up my grateful journal online, and with photos. I hope to maintain this for the rest of the year. Maybe you could set up yours too.

3rd. 36th.

0

"I used to think I wanted to be with someone who shared same interests and passions; someone who thought like I thought and believed what I believed -- and what I found was you. You have your own ideas about life and they're so different from mine. But you know I've learned a lot from our differences. Our love challenges my mind and forces me to broaden my horizons, to look beyond my comfort zone. And now we've discovered a new comfort in being together in learning from one another, in the whole give-and-take of this relationship. Because of you my world has grown so much not to mention my heart."

I love you Boss Amo bebelgam mula sa kasuluk-sulukan ng bone marrows ko. I love you so much Baby! Happy happy third anniversary! Every year just keeps getting better! I love youuuu!

First Day of 2014

0
You know that you started the year right when you got to spend the first day with God, your family and your special someone. In my case, I kicked off the year right! I spent the morning at church with my family. We went home afterwards to have some nap as we all know that no one really sleeps early the night before. Upon waking up, the rest of our day started. Luke arrived and we all headed to Paseo de Sta. Rosa for some strolling and our first ever dinner for the year. We also did a tad shopping afterwards. Indeed a happy first day of the year!
and here are the lovebirds hahaha!

Oh Hello There Another Year

0

And just like that, it's already 2014! 2013 brought amazing things to me, some are even unexpected ones. It was a trail to my self-acceptance. It was a year with so many things I feel grateful about. It was a year of realizations and solidifying who I really am. And as the first page of another 365-page-book unfolds, I can firmly say I am moving forward. I'm holding on to what God's word is in Philippians 3:13-15 most especially the verse "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.." This should be my life mantra as I face this year. Also, most importantly, the verses mention on pressing on towards Christ, who should matter the most. I should trust Him more, know more and deeply about Him, too. Still not forgetting my favorite verses though: Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 3:5.  I am gonna conquer this year 2014 once again, together with God, my family, Luke, my boyfriend, and my friends.
